separation as together
i am currently working at Grand Valley State University's gallery and this week Separation as Together opened, featuring the work of EunMee Lee and SoonJung Hong. i had the pleasure of working with them over the past week of installation and am sorry i did not have the opportunity to meet them earlier in their stay. All of the work in the exhibit was created during their 6 week residency on campus. SoonJung created 4 installation pieces, each representing a season and EunMee created 8 pedestal works.

They share a live/work space in Heyri, a cultural art village in Korea. From what i've read and seen, Heyri seems like the perfect little artist utopia. It houses a community of artists, writers, architects and musicians and the idea is to create an environment where artist's can collaborate, sell their work, and provide the community a space for cultural exchange. the collective has eco-friendly, beautiful, modern design spaces and everything has been built while concserving the surrounding environment. Eunmee and Soonjung designed their house with an architect and phsically worked alongside the laborers to build their concrete clad space named TERRA studio.
