happy birthday to me
yes, that's right, happy birthday to me!
it's snowing like mad and the streets are solid ice. what a wonderful day for a snow day?
no such luck. campus is open and classes are scheduled. another birthday spent in dekalb >:-p
i'm glad it's the last one.
this february has just flown by and it doesn't seem like it's my birthday. hmmm, i probably say that every year, but it always kinda creeps up on me. i'm not too keen on my relatively new awareness of time moving a little quicker. with a shorter past there's a greater hurry and i think my shorter past ended a couple years ago. I'm far more aware and sensitive to time and I often feel there's not enough time to do want needs doing. I do think that time is just a construct, but pay attention to it and it speeds up, ignore it and it disappears. As children and young adults there's so much anticipation. looking forward to staying up late, the arrival of summer break or later on, getting a job, traveling, marriage. it's living in a future tense, anticipating what's next and feeling like the time passes so slowly.
As we get older our experiences accumulate to the point where we're not processing as much, but just accessing the imprints or information. so does that mean that elders with more experience and the 'been there, done that' attitude are living in the past which would allow for time to pass quickly? i'm still processing on a daily basis and i only live partially in the past, so where is my time going? i've got tons of crackpot theories about time and love talking about it, but not enough time :-) to elaborate here. got to prioritize!
I am very content with where i am in my life and have no desire to wish i was a different age because every year truly gets better. I accomplish more, get more excited about what I am and will be doing, and appreciate the person i'm growing into. embracing the vicissitudes of aging, moving through life with cognizance, and reveling in the moment, now that slows down time for me. what slows time down for you?
